Advanced practice nurses in primary care in Switzerland: an analysis of interprofessional collaboration

ABSTRACT
The increase in the number of chronically ill patients due to ageing is calling existing models primary care (PC) into question. New have recently been implemented Swiss PC and involve interprofessional teams. This paper aimed investigate practice collaboration between advanced nurses, registered medical assistants within new Switzerland using National Interprofessional Competency Framework.An ethnographic design comprising semi-structured interviews non-participant observations was conducted. Sixteen were conducted with providers at their practice. Interviewees included four two six assistants, general practitioners. Nine other health professionals subsequently observed Interviews by first author from February April 2019.Our analysis interview observational data confirmed that role clarification, team functioning, collaborative leadership, conflict resolution, patient-centered care, communication a significant influence on among PC. Among these domains, clarification functioning most frequently raised issues. Both found potential negatively and, therefore, hinder efficient PC.From analysis, it emerged crucial for effective delivery context. Our study results may inform international policymakers practitioners about important domains when implementing models. Practical experience involving nurses also regulation scope Switzerland.
