ABSTRACT
Abstract Background The objective of this study was to investigate the metabolic and osmotic effects different doses glycerol or a – propylene glycol mixture in Sarda sheep with aim identify those able beneficially modify ewe’s status without harmful changes red blood cell (RBC) indices. Thereafter, selected were tested for their on ovarian activity during an induced follicular phase compared hormonal treatment equine chorionic gonadotrophin (eCG). Results Glycerol administered alone (G groups: 90% 10% water; % v/v) combination (M 70% glycerol, 20% glycol, v/v). Treatments formulated provide 100, 75, 50 25% amount energy supplied previous experiments. Obtained results showed that formulations G75 M75 (22.5 18.2% DM basis, respectively) induce comparable by M100. latter dose has been already evaluated its metabolism reproductive performance. However, these high doses, plasma osmolality increased significantly, RBC indices significant alterations. low groups (G25 M25, 8.6 6.9% did not show any alterations indices, but milieu differed markedly from Between medium groups, M50 (12.9% basis) more M100 than G50 (15.9% no Therefore, M75, effect functions proved be equally effective as eCG. Conclusion present evidenced alteration possibly functions, side administration at diet ewes. protocols foreseeing should functions. In general terms, glucogenic dietary offer) preferred.
