The 1-min animal test as a mental status screening examination in patients with diabetes

ABSTRACT
Detecting and treating dementia at an early stage are important. Although the Revised Hasegawa Dementia Scale (HDS-R) is commonly used to detect dementia, it takes about 10 min complete. In contrast, 1-min animal test (OMAT) only 1 complete may be a helpful screening for general practitioners in deciding whether proceed with administering further diagnostic tests such as HDS-R. We sought examine relationship between OMAT HDS-R scores, determine cut-off score that balanced sensitivity specificity identifying HDS-R-positive patients.A total of 122 consecutive patients diabetes who visited outpatient clinic Fujiidera Municipal Hospital were enrolled. The underwent on same day. Tests conducted single-blinded manner. scores was examined using Spearman's rank correlation. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis performed identify optimal will tests.A strong positive correlation observed (r = 0.70). 12/13, 13/14, 14/15 0.87 0.66, 1.00 0.51, 0.40, respectively among all subjects.
