ABSTRACT
Oral intake of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) reportedly suppresses the accumulation visceral fat and has antitumor effects in tumor-bearing animals. MCFAs penetrate mitochondrial membrane a carnitine shuttle-independent manner are metabolized more quickly than long-chain acids. Based on these characteristics, may have pronounced mitochondria-rich tissues, such as myocardium. We examined effect oral heart. We fed BALB/c mice with control diet supplemented 0%, 2%, 5%, or 10% lauric acid (LAA; 12-carbon saturated MCFA). After euthanasia, hearts, both sides quadriceps femoris muscle (QFM) epididymal pad (EFP) were excised weighed. Then myocardial tissue morphology, oxidative stress accumulation, volume observed by histological analysis. The expression levels myosin light chain 1 measured ELISA.There no differences among groups food calorie intake, but LAA increased dietary proportion. 10%-LAA-fed experienced significant weight loss became moribund day 6. body, cardiac EFP weights 5% lower those group. And group showed decrease QFM weights. Protein analysis hearts revealed higher Histological examination atrophy Fewer mitochondria intake.Excessive consumption damage myocardium might result from cellular atrophy.
