ABSTRACT
Abstract Background Parental practices and neighbourhood environmental factors may influence children’s movement behaviours. We aimed to investigate the cross-sectional prospective associations of parental with accelerometer-measured 24-hour behaviours (24 h-MBs) among school-aged children in Singapore. Methods The Growing Up Singapore Towards healthy Outcomes (GUSTO) study collected information on dimensions environment at age 5.5 years. Confirmatory factor analyses were performed generate latent variables used compute overall [involvement PA + support for control screen viewing context] scores [facilities active play mobility facilitators barriers*-1]. Children wore an accelerometer their non-dominant wrist seven consecutive days ages 8 R-package GGIR 2.6 was derive moderate-to-vigorous-intensity physical activity (MVPA), light-intensity (LPA), inactivity, total-sleep (napping+night sleep) minutes per day. Associations determined using compositional data analysis multivariate linear regression models, taking into account potential confounders. Results Among 425 (48% girls, 59% Chinese), higher involvement PA, associated 24 h-MBs years, specifically greater time spent MVPA less being inactive relative remaining corresponding mean changes h-MB increasing from lowest highest (− 2 z-scores) indicated increases up 15-minutes MVPA, 20-minutes LPA, 5-minutes sleep duration, a reduction 40-minutes inactivity At this could translate approximately more 20-minute inactivity. contexts not h-MBs. Conclusions but lower Singaporean children, even later age. Further research provide insights that development targeted public health strategies promote healthier children.
