ABSTRACT
Kenya continues to have a high maternal mortality rate that is showing slow progress in improving. Peri-urban settings been reported exhibit higher rates of death during labor and childbirth as compared the general Kenyan population. Although research indicates women increased access facility-based birth recent years, small percentage still give outside health facility due challenges poor service quality. Most studies assessing births focused on sociodemographic determinants birthing location. Few assessed women's user experiences perceptions quality care childbirth. Understanding can provide different stakeholders with strategies structure provision maternity be person-centered contribute improvements satisfaction services outcomes.A qualitative study was conducted, whereby 70 from peri-urban area Embakasi East side Nairobi City were interviewed. Respondents aged 18 49 years had delivered preceding six weeks. We conducted in-depth interviews who gave at both public private facilities. The recorded, transcribed, translated for analysis. Braune Clarke's guidelines thematic analysis used generate themes interview data.Four main emerged Women positive when person-centered-i.e. responsive, dignified, supportive, respectful communication. They negative they mistreated, which manifested non-responsive (including reception long wait times), non-dignified verbal physical abuse lack privacy confidentiality), communication, supportive being denied companions, neglect abandonment, environment).To sustain gains births, there need improve ensure experiences.
