ABSTRACT
Abstract Background Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the dorsum tongue is extremely rare, and it clinically resembles various benign lesions. Somatic mutations in TP53 some driver genes were implicated development SCC; however, somatic genetic characteristics dorsal SCC remain unknown. With a detailed analysis gene SCC, we aimed to better understand its biology. Methods Four cases initially occurring on evaluated for clinical histological findings immunohistochemical expression p53 p16. Gene analyzed using next-generation sequencing with custom panel genes. Results We retrospectively investigated 557 only four occurred dorsum. The patients (cases 1–4) one woman three men mean age 53.75 years (range: 15–74 years). Histological revealed well-differentiated SCC. Through molecular analysis, identified pathogenic mutations, namely, p.C176F (c.527G > T) case 3 p.R282W (c.844 C 4. No variants PI3K/AKT or RAS/RAF pathways. examination wild-type pattern 1–3 strong results p16 immunostaining negative all cases. Conclusions described previously unreported may contribute subset more need be accumulated.
