ABSTRACT
Timely initiation of breastfeeding is defined as putting the newborn to breast within one hour birth. Significant benefits in reducing neonatal mortality and morbidity can be attained with effective promotion timely exclusive during first months life. Therefore, this study was conducted assess associated factors among mothers South Gondar, Amhara regional state, Northern Ethiopia. A community based cross-sectional employed. multistage stratified sampling technique used select sample 845 97.4% response rate. Moreover, data were collected by face interview using a semi structured questionnaire. The prevalence 48.7% (54.7% urban 25.1% rural areas). odds higher for (Adjusted Odds Ratio [AOR] 2.1; 95% Confidence Interval [CI] 1.4, 3.3), multiparous (AOR 2.8; CI 2.0, 3.8), who had antenatal care 3.2; 5.2), delivered health institution 3.1; 2.2, 4.6) vaginally 4.1; 1.7, 9.8) than their respective counterparts. This depicts rate low south Gondar zone. Factors which positively include residence, multiparity, having care, mother deliver vaginal mode delivery. office healthcare providers have provide information giving special emphasis primiparous poorly practiced. Further needed implementation policies on breastfeeding.
