Gestational diabetes mellitus: challenges in diagnosis and management

ABSTRACT
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a well-characterized disease affecting significant population of pregnant women worldwide. It has been widely linked to undue weight gain associated with factors such as diet, obesity, family history, and ethnicity. Poorly controlled GDM results in maternal fetal morbidity mortality. Improved outcomes therefore rely on early diagnosis tight glycaemic control. While straightforward protocols exist for screening management the general population, remains controversial conflicting guidelines treatment protocols. This review highlights diagnostic options light recent advances care.
