Investigating the contributing factors to HIV/AIDS infection from the perspective of HIV-infected patients

ABSTRACT
Abstract Background People with HIV have always faced stigma and discrimination. Given the numerous papers that addressed psychological social risk factors in spreading HIV, a pressing question is whether individuals’ mere careless behavioural flaws can still account for spread of HIV. To accomplish this, 150 patients referring to voluntary counseling testing Center, Shiraz were convenient selected based on sampling method responded researcher-made questionnaire From June August 2019. data analyzed through descriptive statistics (mean, SD, frequency tables) inferential (chi-square). Results revealed main cause infection amongst males was injection narcotics, females it sexual intercourse an infected individual. Meanwhile, 57% 66% blamed themselves transmitting disease. stated if they could return pre-infection period, would use one following ways prevent disease: (a) pay attention hygienic/sanitary principles; (b) not get married; (c) drug addiction. Also only 44% individuals had successful siblings (those who neither addicts nor HIV/AIDS-infected individuals), which observation emphasizes epidemic high-risk behaviors patients’ families.
