ABSTRACT
Tityus serrulatus scorpion venom (TsV) contains toxins that act on K(+) and Na(+) channels account for the venom's toxic effects. TsV can activate murine peritoneal macrophages, but its effects human lymphocytes have been poorly investigated. Considering may play an important role in envenomation, we assessed whether affects expression of phenotypic (CD3, CD4, CD8) activation (CD69, CD25, HLA-DR) markers, cell proliferation, cytokine production peripheral blood mononuclear cells.Cytotoxicity was evaluated via MTT assay. Cell release cytokines were using flow cytometry, after treatment with non-cytotoxic concentrations TsV. The combined use carboxyfluorescein diacetate succinimidyl ester monoclonal antibodies against markers enabled us to simultaneously assess proliferation extent status, discriminate among subpopulations.TsV at 25 100 μg/mL not cytotoxic towards cells. did induce significant changes lymphocyte subpopulations or CD4(+) CD8(+) T inhibited phytohemagglutinin-stimulated particularly CD25(+) subset. alone, 50 μg/mL, elicited IL-6, a proinflammatory plays innate adaptive immune responses.TsV is potential source molecules immunomodulatory action lymphocytes.
