ABSTRACT
Genetic advancements have presented numerous discrimination predicaments to individuals, the healthcare community, and legislators at state federal levels. Oncology nurses should be knowledgeable about Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA) its applications clinical practice. GINA is first law passed protect U.S. citizens with inherited disorders from being treated unfairly because their genetic makeup. Understanding legislation known as GINA, including how it modifies existing laws governing health insurance coverage employment discrimination, can assist oncology in providing important education advocating for patients extended families. Federal agencies that govern enforce GINA's provisions are identified. Case situations included demonstrate apply information concerning cancer families who considering or already completed testing. Privacy a timely issue but difficult understand; therefore, addressed evaluated carefully.
