ABSTRACT
PURPOSE: Several studies have reported clinical behavior and chemotherapy resistance in leiomyosarcomas, but these did not differentiate between soft tissue leiomyosarcomas (LMS) malignant gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). Multidrug (MDR) has been associated with the expression of P-glycoprotein (P-gp), multidrug protein (MRP 1 ), lung (LRP). The aim present study was to compare LMS GIST respect outcome MDR parameters. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Clinical evaluated 29 patients a primary deep-seated 26 GIST. Paraffin-embedded material, available for 25 GIST, used immunohistochemical detection P-gp, MRP , LRP, c-kit. RESULTS: Mean overall survival (OS) 72 months 31 (P < .05). Metastases occurred 16 (59%) 27 assessable 10 (56%) 18 patients. predominantly metastasized lungs (14 patients), whereas tended spread liver (five patients) abdominal cavity (three patients; P .001). P-gp more pronounced than .05): mean percentage expressing cells 13.4% 38.4% 13.3% 35.4% LRP differ c-kit expressed 5% 68% CONCLUSION: better patients, metastatic pattern is different. Expression proteins less
