ABSTRACT
The three principal studies dedicated to the natural history of peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) from colorectal cancer consistently showed median survival ranging between 6 and 8 months. New approaches combining cytoreductive surgery perioperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy suggest improved survival.A retrospective multicenter study was performed evaluate international experience with this combined treatment identify prognostic indicators. All patients had (intraperitoneal chemohyperthermia and/or immediate postoperative chemotherapy). PC appendiceal origin excluded. The included 506 28 institutions operated May 1987 December 2002. Their age 51 years. follow-up 53 morbidity mortality rates were 22.9% 4%, respectively. overall 19.2 Patients in whom complete a 32.4 months, compared 8.4 months for not possible (P <.001). Positive independent indicators by multivariate analysis cytoreduction, second procedure, limited extent PC, less than 65 years, use adjuvant chemotherapy. neoadjuvant chemotherapy, lymph node involvement, presence liver metastasis, poor histologic differentiation negative indicators. The therapeutic approach achieved long-term selected group acceptable mortality. most important indicator.
