ABSTRACT
Agouti-related protein (AgRP) is an orexigenic neuropeptide produced by neurons in the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus (ARC) that a key component of central neural circuits control food intake and energy expenditure. Disorders homeostasis, characterized hypophagia increased metabolic rate, frequently develop animals with either acute or chronic diseases. Recently, studies have demonstrated proopiomelanocortin-expressing ARC are activated proinflammatory cytokine IL-1β. In current study, we sought to determine whether inflammatory processes regulate expression AgRP mRNA characterize response Here, show real-time RT-PCR situ hybridization analysis rodents models inflammation. were found express type I IL-1 receptor, percentage was significantly after peripheral administration lipopolysaccharide. Furthermore, demonstrate IL-1β inhibits release from explants. Collectively, these data indicate signals decrease secretion while increasing transcription gene. These observations suggest may participate proopiomelanocortin mediating anorexic responses disease processes.
