ABSTRACT
To investigate the protective effects of betelnut polyphenols on vital organs against high-altitude hypoxia in rats.We compared low-, medium-, and high- dose (400, 800, 1600 mg/kg, respectively) rhodiola Wistar rats. The rats were kept normal condition given drugs daily for 3 days before transfer to a facility at altitude 4010 m, where 5 consecutive hypoxic exposure. then euthanized measuring arterial blood gas assessing liver, lung, brain cardiac pathologies with HE staining. SOD activity, MDA content GSH measured, serum levels inflammatory factors detected using protein microarray.Acute exposure significantly reduced oxygen saturation (P < 0.05), caused damages myocardium, lowered activity increased organs, TIMP-1, MCP-1, ICAM-1, L-selectin 0.05). Treatment improved saturation, alleviated organ damages, decreased tissues, cytokines acute 0.05).Betelnut provides protection by enhancing antioxidant capacity reducing response.
