ABSTRACT
Anesthesia Information Management Systems (AIMS) display and archive perioperative physiological data patient information. Although currently in limited use, the potential benefits of an AIMS with regard to enhancement safety, clinical effectiveness quality improvement, charge capture professional fee billing, regulatory compliance, anesthesia outcomes research are great. The processes precautions appropriate for selection, installation, implementation complex, however, have been learned at each site by trial error. This collaborative effort summarizes essential considerations successful implementation, including product evaluation, assessment information technology needs, resource availability, leadership roles, training.
