ABSTRACT
Spermatogenesis relies on the function of germ-line stem cells, as a continuous supply differentiated spermatids is produced throughout life. In Drosophila, there must also be somatic cells that produce cyst accompany germ spermatogenesis. By lineage tracing, we demonstrate existence such and confirm cells. The likely correspond to ultrastructurally described progenitor for both are anchored around hub non-dividing located at testis tip. We then address whether regulate behavior progenitors their daughter by analyzing cell proliferation fate in testes which line has been genetically ablated. Daughter normally withdraw from cycle, continue proliferate absence addition, switch fate. Male-sterile alleles chickadee diaphanous, deficient exhibit similar phenotypes. conclude signaling regulates lineage.
