ABSTRACT
Atrial electrical remodeling (AER) is the underlying mechanism of atrial fibrillation (AF). The present study investigated impact epicardial fat pad (FP) ablation on acute AER (AAER) and inducibility AF.AAER was performed in 28 mongrel dogs through 4-h rapid pacing (RAP). Before RAP, 14 (ablation group) underwent FP ablation, other (control a sham procedure. effective refractory period (ERP) vulnerability window (VW) AF were measured with without bilateral cervical vagosympathetic nerve stimulation (VNS) at high right atrium, ostium coronary sinus (CS) distal CS before after every hour RAP. In control group, ERP markedly shortened first 2 h RAP then stabilized. only slightly induced. After time course VNS similar. significantly increased VW prolonged ablation. Moreover, neither nor or VW. could not be induced (VW=0).RAP resulted AAER, which may mediated aggravated by autonomic activity. Epicardial generated denervation, abolishes but also prevents RAP-mediated AAER.
