ABSTRACT
Current methods utilized for serial blood collection in the young pig are limited due to stress and/or discomfort which is exposed. Thus, we have developed a non-surgical, minimally invasive cannulation technique allows jugular vein catheter placement without causing extended or stress. The procedure described rapid (approximately 8 min/pig) and relatively simple, requiring only minimal anaesthesia immobilization of during procedure. Routinely, 2-week-old piglets standing their pens within 15-20 min from initiation Piglets recover rapidly display no clinical indications pain discomfort. Serum concentrations cortisol, standard indicator discomfort, asymptomatic 2 h completing ( x = 26.14 ± 3.03 ng/ml). Stress initial piglets. With this cannulation, routinely maintain patency days, often as long 5 days.
