ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND Previously reported data has guided the treatment and prevention of blindness. This study aimed to evaluate current prevalence causes visual impairment among adults who were 50 years old older in Binhu District Wuxi City, China. MATERIAL AND METHODS A randomized sample stratified clusters was used analyze individuals from 30 basic sampling units District. Visual defined according World Health Organization (WHO) standards. RESULTS total 6725 people at least participated this study. According WHO standards, bilateral low vision blindness both higher women than men (low vision: 6.5% vs. 5.2%; blindness: 1.4% 0.8%; P=0.022 P=0.039, respectively). The incidence increased significantly with age (P<0.001 P<0.001, Further studies showed that main cataract, high myopic macular degeneration (MMD), age-related (AMD). MMD, eye loss/atrophy, while monocular MD, AMD. CONCLUSIONS remains City China, especially women. In our study, cataracts leading cause impairment. Our highlights some efforts should be initiated prevent treat vision. Additional AMD, loss/atrophy.
