Negative perceptions of older adults and life satisfaction among community-dwelling older citizens in Japan

ABSTRACT
<ns3:p>Background With the rapid aging of population, increasing life satisfaction among older adults is essential. Negative perceptions are internalized, leading to poor mental health. This study hypothesized that participants with more negative would have lower satisfaction. Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted across five wards and four cities in Tokyo, Japan. Participants responded questions regarding demographics, satisfaction, adults. Data from 285 (264 women, <ns3:italic>M</ns3:italic> = 71.97 years) were analyzed. Results The intraclass correlation coefficient for concerning residential areas was. 03 (95% confidence interval [CI] [-.03, .10]). Instead multilevel models, a multiple regression model as dependent variable demographics independent variables yielded best fit. indicated reported (<ns3:italic>β</ns3:italic> -.16, 95% CI [-.28, -.04], <ns3:italic>p</ns3:italic> .008), supporting our hypothesis. Conclusions constrained by limited variance predominantly female participant pool. Previous studies shown higher associated increased social participation extended expectancy, interventions aimed at enhancing significant. Further exploration warranted ascertain whether causal relationship exists, wherein diminish satisfaction.</ns3:p>
