Maxillofacial Fractures in Makka City in Saudi Arabia; an 8-year Review of Practice

ABSTRACT
Objective: to review the practice of maxillofacial trauma surgery in Makka city, Saudi Arabia, as road traffic accidents is considered a major cause morbidity and mortality kingdom. Materials methods: chart all cases that visited hospital Alnoor specialist (NSH), from October 2005 2013 was collected. A total 1132 patients’ records were retrieved. Amongst, 965 injuries included study completed information found. Charts incomplete records, soft tissue only, or solitary dental injury excluded. Then, pertinent such age, gender, residence status, fracture pattern extracted, tabulated, correlated. Results: it presented males affected four times more than females (ratio 4.4:1), an age ranged 3 years old 97 with mean 51 old, patients 1 16 counting 135 (11.9%), while between 17 – 45 856 (75.7%), 46 139 (12.3%). The majority involving lower facial third (mandible) by 523 (54.19%), then middle include Zygomatic maxillary complex (ZMC) 399 (41.3%; p=0.006), orbital floor 25 (2.5%), upper (nasal, ethmoid, orbital, frontal bar) fractures 18 (1.8%). ratio non found be 1.89:1. Conclusion: city are mainly affecting male aged 17-45 mandible face being most commonly injured respectively.
