Public Awareness and Perception on Care for the Elderly among Funtua Residents in Katsina State, North-west Nigeria

ABSTRACT
The population of the elderly is rapidly increasing globally and there need to meet up with special needs requirements that are unique them. This study aimed at evaluating public awareness perception towards care for elderly. A cross-sectional descriptive survey design was used administred questionaire participants. Cluster method select 3 out 5 wards 150 participants were recruited using purposive convenience sampling techniques. structured questionnaire collect data. Data obtained analyzed Statistical Package Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 20. Descriptive analysis computed on dependent independent variables. result shows majority (90%) have relatively good knowledge basic elderly, high positive attitudinal predisposition preference their aged people in (participants’) homes rather than be nursed institutions such as nursing (92%). Despite attitudes expressed by toward older people, significant efforts required health educate about activities daily living other specific ways caring especially those chronic illness.
