ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to compare between the possible effects of rosiglitazone A new oral antidiabetic drug with selective PPAR-gamma agonistic effect in a dose 0.03 mg/kg BW and gliclazide An sulphonylurea 10 either used alone or combination, for 6 weeks on liver, serum glucose lipid profile streptozotocin diabetic rats.
Thirty rats were randomized into 5 groups (n=6). Group I; control group given saline orally daily weeks. II; induced group. III received rosiglitazone, while IV V both drugs. The results present revealed that significantly (P< 0.05) elevated glucose, cholesterol triglycerides compared controls. insulin sensitizer combined decreased Gliclazide also had same effect. For histopathological study, liver tissue prepared histological (HE however degree damage only statistically increased case III.
When group, these (III, V) showed no significant difference optical density PAS positive reaction mean color area percentage collagen; immunostaining significantly.
This indicated when concomitantly gliclazide, streptozotocin-induced resulted improvement their metabolic control, yet potential hepatotoxicity still be considered.
