Multiple interpretations of minds in the translation of David Almond’s Skellig

ABSTRACT
The present article addresses the translation of young adult literature from a cognitive literary lens, aiming to investigate how multiple interpretations are prompted by and whether translational choices point translator’s attitude. It associates concepts narration focalisation with resources used readers construct mental model characters’ minds. is argued that different strategies pose demands on readers’ theory mind, system inferences interpret people’s states. In addition, it relates an implied image her readership source text, employing voice positioning. That exemplified through analysis into Brazilian Portuguese David Almond’s Skellig, focusing three passages in which characters interact. By doing so, not only shows stimulates development, but also challenges idea for deprived value provides literal readings, purports attitude conditions convey meaning-restrictive or -expanding children’s literature.
