ABSTRACT
SUMMARY Fundraising for the academic engineering/science library must be an integral part of its operations in this time of restricted resources and rising expectations. Institutional self-knowledge, knowledge of donors and the coordination of fundraising efforts among the various players are requirements for success for any library fundraising effort. The engineering/science library, which plays a special supporting role for academic engineering and science departments alumni and the business community, can use its special strengths in collections, staff and resources to approach fundraismg creatively. Those libraries that are responsive to change can improve fundraising efforts by marketing themselves as synergistic organizations open to new projects and technologies and to collaboration with a variety of partners.
