Feasibility of measuring the effective refractive index of blood from backscattered light near the critical angle

ABSTRACT
A recently devised method to measure the effective refractive index of highly turbid media, based on transmission backscattered light near critical angle, is used human blood. We present preliminary results showing feasibility such measurements and indicating that red cells in blood our experiments decrease below value blood's plasma.
