ABSTRACT
In this work, we demonstrate improved molecular detection sensitivity for silicon slab photonic crystal cavities by introducing multiple-hole defects (MHDs), which increase the surface area available label-free without degrading quality factor. Compared to crystals with L3 defects, adding MHDs into enabled a 44% in towards small refractive index perturbations due monolayer attachment of aminosilane molecule. Also, exhibited 18% higher bulk changes.
