ABSTRACT
Twenty macropods from five locations in Queensland, Australia, grazing on a variety of native pastures were surveyed and the bacterial community foregut was examined using 454-amplicon pyrosequencing. Specifically, V3/V4 region 16S rRNA gene examined. A total 5040 OTUs identified data set (post filtering). Thirty-two as 'shared' OTUS (i.e. present all samples) belonging to either Firmicutes or Bacteroidetes (Clostridiales/Bacteroidales). These phyla predominated general microbial macropods. Genera represented within shared included: unclassified Ruminococcaceae, Lachnospiraceae, Clostridiales, Peptococcus sp. Coprococcus spp., Streptococcus Blautia sp., Ruminoccocus Eubacterium Dorea Oscillospira Butyrivibrio The composition samples each host species (Macropus rufus, Macropus giganteus robustus) significantly different allowing differentiation between based alpha beta diversity measures. eleven dominant that separated three classified as: Bacteroidales, Prevotella spp. Syntrophococcus sucromutans. Putative reductive acetogens fibrolytic bacteria also samples. Future work will investigate presence role fibrolytics these ecosystems. Ideally, isolation characterization organisms be used for enhanced feed efficiency cattle, methane mitigation potentially other industries such biofuel industry.
