ABSTRACT
Enterovirus 71 (EV71), a causative agent of hand, foot, and mouth disease can be classified into three genotypes many subtypes. The objectives this study were to conduct molecular epidemiological EV71 in the central region Taiwan from 2002-2012 test hypothesis that whether alternative appearance different subtypes is due transmission neighboring countries or re-emergence pre-existing local strains. We selected 174 isolates used reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction amplify their VP1 for DNA sequencing. Phylogenetic analyses conducted using Neighbor-Joining, Maximum Likelihood Bayesian methods. found major B4 2002 epidemic, C4 2004-2005 B5 2008-2009 2010 epidemic 2011-2012 epidemic. analysis demonstrated 2008 epidemics associated with Malaysia Singapore; while both originated regions mainland China including Shanghai, Henan, Xiamen Gong-Dong. Furthermore, minor strains have been identified each some them correlated subsequent outbreaks. Therefore, infection may originate other Asia China. In addition, 101 detection new recombinant nucleotide sequences spanning VP1-2A-2B region. No strain was found. Analysis clinical manifestations showed patients infected had significantly higher rates pharyngeal vesicles ulcers than B5. This first demonstrating EV association infections between
