ABSTRACT
Failure of intestinal anastomosis is a major complication following abdominal surgery. Biological materials have been introduced as reinforcement wall hernia in contaminated setting. An innovative application biological patch its use gastrointestinal anastomosis. The aim study was to verify whether the bovine pericardium improves healing anastomosis, when vivo wrapping suture line pig avoiding leakage event deliberately incomplete suture. Forty-three pigs were randomly divided: Group 1 (control, n = 14): hand-sewn ileo-ileal and colo-colic anastomosis; 2 (n standard wrapped by patch; 3 1) 4 one also last one. Intraoperative evaluation, histological, biochemical, tensiometric electrophysiological studies specimens performed at 48 h, 7 90 days after. In groups 4, no leak, stenosis, abscess, peritonitis, mesh displacement or shrinkage found adhesion rate decreased compared control. Biochemical showed mitochondrial function improvement colic Tensiometric evaluations suggested that preserves contractility similar controls. Electrophysiological results demonstrated mucosal restoring almost normal transport properties. Use safe effective, significantly improving process. Data prevention acute peritonitis cases iatrogenic perforation anastomoses, covered with patch, unpublished.
