ABSTRACT
Bombyx mori cocoon has a multi-layer structure that provides optimal protection for silkworm pupa. Research on the mechanical properties of revealed structure-property relationships cocoon. Here, we investigated protein components B. in terms its structure. Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry identified 286 proteins from multiple layers. In addition to fibroins and sericins, abundant protease inhibitors, seroins unknown function. By comparing abundance across layers, found outermost layer contained more sericin1 inhibitors innermost had seroin1. As many as 36 were cocoons, showing efficient inhibitory activities against fungal protease. Thus, propose outer layers may provide better This study increases our understanding mechanism helps clarify biological characteristics cocoons.
