ABSTRACT
The mouse model of laser-induced choroidal neovascularization (CNV) has been used in studies the exudative form age-related macular degeneration using both conventional slit lamp and a new image-guided laser system. A standardized protocol is needed for consistent results this model, which lacking. We optimized details CNV photocoagulation Four lesions with similar size were consistently applied per eye at approximately double disc diameter away from optic nerve, different power levels, mice various ages genders. After 7 days, sacrificed retinal pigment epithelium/choroid/sclera was flat-mounted, stained Isolectin B4, imaged. Quantification area performed an established constant threshold. Exclusion criteria are described that necessary reliable data analysis lesions. lesion proportional to levels. Mice 12-16 weeks age developed more severe than those 6-8 age, gender difference only significant but not age. Dietary intake omega-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid reduced mice. Taken together, can be easily platform. ideal model.
