ABSTRACT
The effects of 52 weeks soccer or resistance training were investigated in untrained elderly men. subjects aged 68.1±2.1 yrs randomised into a (SG; n = 9), (RG; 9) and control group (CG; 8). SG RG, respectively, trained 1.7±0.3 1.8±0.3 times weekly on average during the intervention period. Muscle function body composition determined before after 16 In SG, BMI was reduced by 1.5% 3.0% (p<0.05) weeks, unchanged RG 2% higher CG response to glucose tolerance test 16% lower wks, but not compared period, CG. superoxide dismutase-2 expression 59% wks upper lean mass 3 Akt-2 increased 28% (p<0.01) follistatin decreased 38% 52-wk Thus, long-term reduces improves anti-oxidative capacity, while impacts muscle protein enzyme increases Trial Registration ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT01530035
