ABSTRACT
Background In Côte d'Ivoire, a TB prison program has been developed since 1999. This includes offering screening to prisoners who show up with symptoms at the infirmary. Our objective was estimate prevalence of pulmonary among inmates Correctional and Detention Facility Abidjan, largest 16 years after this implemented. Methods Between March September 2015, inmates, were screened for using systematic direct smear microscopy, culture chest X-ray. All participants also proposed HIV testing. defined as either confirmed (positive culture), probable microscopy and/or X-ray findings suggestive TB) or possible (signs TB, no X-Ray microbiological evidence). Factors associated tuberculosis analysed multivariable logistic regression. Results Among 943 screened, 88 (9.3%) met case definition, including 19 (2.0%) 40 (4.2%) 29 (3.1%) TB. Of isolated strains, 10 (53%) drug resistant, 7 (37%) multi-resistance. patients resistant strain, only one had past history treatment. 3.1% overall, 9.6%among cases. age ≥30 (Odds Ratio 3.8; 95% CI 1.1–13.3), prolonged cough 3.6; 1.3–9.5) fever 2.7; 1.0–7.5). Conclusion country prison, is still (confirmed) 44 times (confirmed, possible) frequent in d'Ivoire general population, despite long-time running symptom-based detection. Decreasing limiting risk MDR may require implementation annual in-cell campaigns that systematically target all inmates.
