ABSTRACT
In vivo tracking of transplanted mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) migration and homing is vital for understanding the mechanisms beneficial effects MSCs transplantation in animal models diseases clinical trials. Transplanted can be labeled with superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) particles visualized using a number sensitive MRI techniques. However, applicability those techniques SPIO-labeled live brain has not been sufficiently investigated. The goal this study was to estimate efficiency various cell tracing brain. To achieve that goal, precision specificity T2WI, T2*WI SWI (Susceptibility-Weighted Imaging) vitro rat were first time compared same experiment. We have shown presents most pulse sequence MR visualization. After intracerebral administration due limitations caused by local micro-hemorrhages visualization threshold 102 cells, while after intra-arterial permitted detection several or even single cells. There just one publication claiming individual brain, other state much lower sensitivity, describe different types high resolution tissues. This confirms possibility outlines necessary conditions. method convenient SPIO small groups tissue appropriate monitoring basic translational neuroscience.
