ABSTRACT
Purpose Ellipsoid zone (EZ) and outer retinal integrity are strongly linked to visual prognosis, but quantitative normative data is lacking. This study evaluates the EZ, retina, inner retina in eyes without macular disease across a wide age spectrum. Methods An IRB-approved was performed for pathology undergoing Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography (SD-OCT) scans on Cirrus HD-OCT system (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Oberkochen, Germany). Scans were analyzed using previously described automated EZ mapping tool with line-by-line manual verification. Segmentation included internal limiting membrane (ILM), nuclear layer/Henle fiber layer complex (ONL/HFL), pigment epithelium (RPE). The output metrics (ILM-OPL/HFL), (ONL/HFL-RPE), EZ-RPE area volume, en face mapping. attenuation defined as thickness < 20 um, total 0 um. Imaging parameters assessed group compared age, sex, acuity spherical equivalent. Results 167 from subjects included. Mean 49.7 years (range 10–84 years). mean foveal 200.58 ± 19.22 21.47 13.60 179.11 18.52 50.58 6.01um. volume 1.20 0.10 mm3. percentage per map 0.87% 1.13% 0.12% 0.14%. Total decreased age. increased unchanged However, negatively correlated Conclusion provides important information parameters. Future research can utilize this comparison.
