ABSTRACT
The effect of statin on hemodialysis patients is controversial. Although previous large-scale studies did not clarify its in this population, recent suggest that statins could be useful reducing the risk cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality specific groups undergoing hemodialysis. aforementioned included a small percentage Asians, few have investigated effects Asians Thus, we benefits maintenance at single center Japan. We obtained demographic, clinical, data all who underwent Nagasaki Renal Center between July 2011 June 2012. Patients were followed-up until 2018. studied 339 patients, which 51 (15.0%) prescribed pitavastatin. mean observation period was 4.1±2.3 years, 43% women, median vintage baseline 4.7 years. During follow-up, 198 (58%) died, 22 (43%) pitavastatin 176 (61%) any statins. After propensity score matching based age, sex, dialysis vintage, time, diabetes mellitus, ischemic heart disease, dry weight, left ventricular ejection fraction, serum albumin, an intergroup comparison those received (44 each group) showed significant differences survival rate log-rank test (P<0.05). causes death differ significantly groups, deaths due to events, infections, cancer fewer group Our results may reduce Japanese potential residual confounders exist, influence reduction incidence cancer. Nevertheless, further are required prove hypothesis.
