ABSTRACT
The marked increase in the pig-trade Ghana has raised concerns about increased transmission of related zoonotic diseases. A study on pig-related zoonoses along pork value-chain was conducted Greater Accra and Upper East Regions Ghana. Results showed significant taenia (60%) trichinella (8%) seroprevalence pigs with little evidence to humans. Sero-prevalence HEV high both (85%) humans (37%). rates were significantly higher than Accra. Pig handlers had sero-prevalence (58%) other community members (18%) but there no such association East. Given mortality, miscarriage stillbirth associated pregnancy, it is a cause for concern that 31% women child-bearing age tested sero-positive HEV.
