ABSTRACT
Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score predicts probability of in-hospital mortality. Many crisis standards care suggest the use SOFA scores to allocate medical resources during COVID-19 pandemic.Are elevated among Non-Hispanic Black and Hispanic patients hospitalized with COVID-19, compared White patients?Retrospective cohort study conducted in Yale New Haven Health System, including 5 hospitals total 2681 beds. Study population drawn from consecutive aged ≥18 admitted March 29th August 1st, 2020. Patients excluded analysis if not their first admission they did have recorded within 24 hours admission, race ethnicity data were Black, White, or Hispanic, had other missing data. The primary outcome was score, peak dichotomized as <6 ≥6.Of 2982 2320 met inclusion criteria analyzed, whom 1058 (45.6%) 645 (27.8%) 617 (26.6%) Black. Median age 65.0 1226 (52.8%) female. In univariate logistic screen full multivariate model, but greater odds an ≥6 when (OR 1.49, 95%CI 1.11-1.99).Given current unequal patterns social determinants health, US utilizing would be more likely deny these patients.
