ABSTRACT
Objective Quadriceps weakness is considered the primary determinant of gait function after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). However, many patients have shown a gap in improvement trends between and quadriceps strength clinical situations. Factors other than recovery TKA may be essential factors. Because muscle power more influential strength, maximum extension velocity without external load critical parameter with TKA. This study aimed to identify importance determining early by comparing strength. Methods prospective observational was conducted four acute care hospitals. Patients scheduled for unilateral were recruited (n = 186; age, 75.9 ± 6.6 years; 43 males 143 females). Knee defined as angular quickly possible seated position. Bilateral (knee strength), lateral (pain range motion), (gait speed Timed Up Go test (TUG)) evaluated before at 2 3 weeks Results Both bilateral velocities strengths significantly correlated function. The on operation side strongest predictor all time points multiple regression analysis. Conclusion These findings identified impairments Therefore, training that focuses recommended part rehabilitation program postoperative period following Trial registration UMIN Clinical Trials Registry (UMIN-CTR) UMIN000020036 .
