ABSTRACT
Background Azithromycin is a therapeutically” relevant macrolide antibiotic registered on the Essential Medicines List of World Health Organization. The fact that medicine selected as an essential drug doesn’t mean it good quality. Hence, continuous quality evaluation should be mandated to verify right medication available market. Objective To evaluate Tablets commonly marketed in Adama, and Modjo town, Oromia Regional State, Ethiopia. Methods All six brands were subjected in-vitro control tests, which carried out according procedures described manufacturer’s method, United States Pharmacopeia, WHO inspection tool. parameters compared by one-way ANOVA. Statistically, significant difference was considered when P<0.05. dissolution profiles also statistically using post-hoc Dunnett test, model-independent model-dependent approaches. Results evaluated agreed with visual criteria. tablets achieved thickness, diameter test requirements specification (±5%). passed hardness, friability, weight variation, disintegration, identity, assay tests stipulated USP. rate more than 80% 30 minutes, within USP specification. have confirmed only two (2/6) deemed better for interchangeability. Conclusion dependent approaches revealed data fit well Weibull, However, Due dynamic nature low-quality medications, Ethiopian Food, Drug Authority keep eye products guarantee their quality, especially drugs like azithromycin non-bioequivalence from study has clinical concern.
