#chatsafe 2.0. updated guidelines to support young people to communicate safely online about self-harm and suicide: A Delphi expert consensus study

ABSTRACT
Introduction Young people use social media to communicate about self-harm and suicide this is associated with both potential risks protective effects. The #chatsafe guidelines were originally developed in 2018 equip young safely online suicide. They shown be safe, acceptable, beneficial; however, they do not provide guidance on self-harm, constantly evolving. This study aimed update the reflect new evidence current affordances, include self-harm. Methods A Delphi expert consensus was conducted, comprising six stages: 1) systematic search of peer-reviewed grey literature; 2) series roundtables key stakeholders including companies, policymakers, people; 3) Questionnaire development; 4) Expert panel formation; 5) Data collection analysis; 6) Guideline development. Results total 191 items included guidelines. These organised into eight themes, which became overarching sections guidelines: General tips; Creating content; Consuming Livestreams acts; Self-harm games, pacts, hoaxes; communities; 7) Bereavement communicating someone who has died by suicide; 8) Guidance for influencers. Discussion updated information communication livestreams, hoaxes, as well will disseminated via a national campaign supported adult-facing resources. Given acceptability original ubiquitous people, it hoped that useful resource adults alike, Australia worldwide.
