To share is to receive: News as social currency for social media reciprocity

ABSTRACT
Guided by the framework of reciprocity on social media, current study investigated antecedents news sharing. Using a two-wave panel survey involving 868 respondents who took two surveys about one year apart, this examined effect frequency receiving media subsequent news-sharing behaviour, while controlling for demographics, motivations and trust in news. The found that motivation self-presentation shared one's network positively predicted sharing media. Frequency at Time 1 also subsequently 2. This points to being valued as form currency.
