ABSTRACT
The purpose of this report is to provide a summary the pertussis activity in Canada.A descriptive analysis incidence by year, age group, gender and province/territory was conducted using national surveillance data, clinical administrative data vital statistics data.Pertussis an endemic cyclical disease Canada with peaks occurring every 2 5 years. has experienced decline following introduction routine immunization programs. highest infants children. Hospitalization mortality are more common among infants, particularly those less than three months age. Trends vary province territory. notable increase 2012. Reasons for unknown.Our understanding epidemiology could be enhanced improved approaches monitoring disease. Although peak observed 2012 isolated event, further work support outbreak response provinces territories, including rapid research tools resources, should considered.
