ABSTRACT
Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is the most common monogenic hereditary disease in Brazil. The North and Northeastern regions of Brazil concentrate a large number outstanding African ancestry communities, denominated kilombo. aim this study was to make survey SCA cases Boqueirão Kilombo community, situated Bahia semi-arid region. Individuals from 467 who replied positively for occurrence jaundice, family history sickle were pre-selected undergo diagnostic exam included Group 1. others individuals 2. Blood samples evaluation 1 showed following hemoglobin genotypes: HbAA 65 individuals, HbSS 3 HbAS 29 HbAF individual HbAC 2 individuals. One with all heterozygots mutated allele S did not know that they had mutation. data demonstrate need health assistance directed towards these special communities.
