ABSTRACT
Family members of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) have higher risk vascular events. We conducted a trial to determine if family heart-health intervention could reduce their CAD.We assessed factors and randomized 426 CAD (n = 211) or control 215). The included feedback about factors, assistance goal setting counselling from health educators for 12 months. Reports were sent the primary care physicians whose lipid levels blood pressure exceeded threshold values. All participants received printed materials smoking cessation, healthy eating, weight management physical activity; group only these materials. main outcomes (ratio total cholesterol high-density lipoprotein [HDL] cholesterol; fruit vegetable consumption) at 3 examined time effects using mixed models analyses baseline values as covariates. secondary plasma (total cholesterol, low-density HDL triglycerides); glucose level; pressure; status; waist circumference; body mass index; use pressure, lipid-lowering cessation medications. We found no effect on ratio cholesterol. However, in reported consuming more vegetables (1.2 servings per day after mo 0.8 mo; p < 0.001). There was significant by interaction activity (p 0.03). At months, those 65.8 minutes week (95% confidence interval [CI] 47.0-84.7 min). 23.9 each CI 3.9-44.0 min).A educator-led did not improve but increase consumption among CAD. Hospitalization spouse, sibling parent is an opportunity cardiovascular other members.clinicaltrials.gov, NCT00552591.
