ABSTRACT
Rationale: The usefulness of impulse oscillometry (IOS) in bronchiectasis has not been systematically investigated. Objectives: To determine the IOS parameters and their correlation with radiology, disease severity, sputum bacteriology, spirometry, to compare changes during exacerbations convalescence bronchiectasis. Methods: We recruited 100 patients 28 healthy subjects. Receiver operating characteristic curve was plotted analyze diagnostic performance parameters. Chest high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT), Bronchiectasis Severity Index (BSI) assessment, culture, spirometry were performed. Correlation between clinical indices determined using Spearman model. Changes parameters, compared exacerbation assessed 16 bronchiectasis.Measurements Main Results: (in particular, resonant frequency) could discriminate from Higher levels associated Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection, dyshomogeneity, higher BSI HRCT score, more bronchiectatic lobes, cystic (all P < 0.05). All but lung resistance at 5 Hz positively correlated duration symptoms, number total scores, 0.05), bacterial density (P > spirometric statistically different peripheral plus central segment Increased frequency dependence (higher resonance or reactance area) likely be lower scores (≤5) than FEV1. Compared FEV1, any single parameter being abnormal common mild bronchiectasis, particularly score lower. baseline 0.05).Conclusions: correlate reflect airway abnormality. An increased aberrant signals poorer conditions. might a sensitive marker bronchiectasis. Any sensitively reflects do change significantly exacerbations.Clinical Trial registered www.clinicaltrials.gov (NCT01761214).
