ABSTRACT
Rationale: Blood eosinophil count predicts response to inhaled corticosteroids and specific biologic therapies in selected patients with asthma. Despite this important role, fundamental aspects of behavior asthma have not been studied. Objectives: To investigate the blood eosinophils a population, comparing their distribution general population studying intraindividual variability over time relation hospital episodes (emergency department visits hospitalizations) clinical practice. Methods: The 35,703 determinations 10,059 stable were investigated MAJORICA (Majorca Real-Life Investigation COPD Asthma) cohort. Eosinophil was compared control sample from 8,557 individuals. analyzed using correlations, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, multiple regression analysis. We defined Variability Index as (Eosmax - Eosmin / Eosmax) × 100%. findings retested an external well-characterized Results: values higher than (P < 0.001). data showed better association counting values. An ⩾50% predictor for any episode absolute These results validated Conclusions: identifies risk currently used target treatments.
